[Noodling on this and that]

Chewing on projects, noodling on thoughts and feels, research, time-laspes, gifs, behind the scenes and any news and updates.

Laksa Love

Recently, there's been quite a few people showing interest in the Malaydsia Nostalgia illustrations and asking if there's a Laksa print. It has been on my list to do for a while but put it on the forefront when more people asked for this. My continued love and obsession with the rooster bowl pops up again.

Here's the illustration, to be added to the shop very soon lah!

The Mangosteen

Reflecting over my time in Malaysia in March 2023. Had the delight tasting these juicy mangosteens in the sweltering heat. Here's a snap of mangosteen's from a market stall and an illustration of the plump juicy fruit.

Bunny's

Branding, Illustration

Concept project

Concept branding project showcasing an identity for a bunhouse, Bunny’s.

Bunny’s based on the story of a Po Po (grandma) Bunny creating steam bun’s for her grandchildren and family, and too good not to share with
the rest of the world. No one knows whether Bunny’s is her birth name or a nickname and how she got it, everyone knows Bunny’s is the place to get the best buns in town.

Work in progress logo designs

Bunny’s branding with its tongue and cheek tone of voice matches its playful aesthetic across the branding look and feel. A modern take on nostalgic with the use of colours, traditional bamboo steamers and jade tiles laced with pops of blossom pink found traditionally sprayed on birthday peach buns.
Illustration of each type of bunny shaped bun portraying the cosy, comforting and nostalgic vibes of a steamhouse, made by our very own Po Po, Bunny’s.

[LNY 2022]

Lunar New Year 2022

Lai See Canvas workshop

In collaboration with The Steam room and HCCS

The Lai See Canvas concept first came about as I was planning how I would like to create something to celebrate the Lunar New Year 2022. I found that in general red envelopes felt mass produced and generic. I wanted to capture some Lai See (red envelope) designs to feel more considered and celebratory. This then turned into two concepts, celebrating the Year of the Tiger with a high quality print, and a red envelope canvas where the community can get involved and personalise their own.

For the last two years, the sense of being part of a community to share the same culture and stories of upbringing became more prominent. I wanted to capture the presence of the community that The Steam Room have brought together, into their window display. Organising workshops to hold social gatherings as well as get creative and personalise a red envelope together and bringing it back to the community by having all proceedings going to Hackney Chinese Community Services. The red envelopes were be added to The Steam Room’s window display and the community can watch the lai see collection grow over the few weeks lead up to Lunar New Year. A community board of good luck vibes and wishes for the new year to share with everyone and feel part of creating something great.
